Dheeraj Kumar/Madhepura. Great grandfather plants, till great grandson eats the fruits. Yes! Coconut is such a fruit that if a great grandfather plants its tree in his childhood, even the great grandson can eat its fruit. It is a different matter that despite the establishment of Coconut Development Board by the Government of India years ago in Sinheshwar of Madhepura district, farmers did not start coconut cultivation on a large scale in this area. But, you will be surprised to know that in the coconut plantation, along with planting other fruit trees, you can also cultivate vegetables, turmeric, fish farming and makhana. It starts bearing fruits at 15 years and continues to bear fruit for 70-80 years.

Speaking to Local 18 Bihar, Assistant Director of Coconut Development Board, Bilich Dan Bada said that the Government of India is making continuous efforts to increase the production of coconut under the Coconut Extension Scheme. For this, if more than 10 saplings are planted, a coconut sapling worth Rs 60 is being given at Rs 20. In this, a grant of Rs 20-20 is given in 2 installments. For this, land receipt, photocopy of bank passbook, Aadhar card and a photograph have to be submitted to the Coconut Development Board office. Then this benefit is given to the farmers through offline registration.
